The Social Security Administration provides cash benefits for individuals who are unable to work due to a disability. However, its definition of disability is very strict, and is limited to conditions that prevent an individual from working for a year or more. If you have become disabled, the Wilkes-Barre and Scranton-area Social Security disability lawyers at O'Malley & Langan, P.C., will review your case to determine if your disability can be considered long term, making you eligible for Social Security disability benefits.
Many employers offer group short-term disability insurance plans that replace a percentage of your income if you are unable to work due to an injury, an illness, or pregnancy. These programs are meant to provide support for temporary disability. If you begin to collect payments from a short-term disability insurance plan and your condition evolves into a long-term disability, these payments will not affect your eligibility to receive Social Security disability benefits.
Our Wilkes-Barre, Scranton, and Towanda Social Security disability lawyers can review your case and advise you of the best steps to take if your condition becomes long-term while you are receiving short-term disability insurance benefits.
If you have suffered an injury or illness related to your job and are unable to work as a result, you may be eligible to receive workers' compensation benefits. These benefits are paid to you by your employer to compensate you for medical bills and lost work time. If you apply for Social Security disability benefits, your workers’ compensation benefits may reduce the amount of Social Security disability benefits you are able to receive.
In addition to Social Security disability cases, our lawyers have extensive experience handling workers’compensation cases for employees throughout Pennsylvania. We understand the laws governing disability issues, and can help you gain the Social Security disability or workers’ compensation benefits you need.
