Pennsylvania — Long-Term Disability Laws

The Social Security Administration pays cash benefits for individuals with disability who are unable to work for a year or more. Long-Term Disability Insurance

Similar to short-term disability insurance, long-term disability insurance policies are typically available through an employer, but they can also be purchased privately. Any payments you receive from a long-term disability insurance plan will not affect the amount of Social Security disability payments you are eligible to receive. However, your receipt of Social Security benefits may impact the amount of long term disability benefits you receive.

ERISA

Most long-term disability insurance plans that are purchased through an employer are governed by ERISA (the Employee Retirement Income Security Act).
