If you or someone you love becomes disabled and cannot work for at least a year, Social Security disability programs can provide assistance. As long as they meet the established medical requirements for being classified as disabled, people who demonstrate financial need or who have worked under the Social Security system for a certain amount of time can establish Social Security eligibility. Our lawyers in Pennsylvania serve Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, and Towanda in order to help individuals and families get the assistance they deserve.
Becoming injured in an accident is not something that most people plan. Social Security Disability Insurance offers cash benefits to workers who are unable to work for at least a year and who have paid enough money into the system over the years to establish Social Security eligibility. The spouses and children of disabled, retired, or deceased workers also can qualify to receive Social Security Disability Insurance.
People can earn up to four work credits per year, based on the amount of money they make. Depending on a person’s age, fewer work credits may be necessary to qualify for Social Security disability, but as long as a person has worked consistently for a number of years, he or she should be eligible to receive benefits, no matter how much or how little income he or she has accumulated. To learn more about work credits and Social Security eligibility, contact O'Malley & Langan, P.C., serving Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, and greater Pennsylvania.

People with little or no income who have been disabled their entire lives or who have become disabled and do not have the resources to provide for their basic needs can qualify for Supplemental Security Income.

The Social Security Administration has designed work incentive programs to encourage people to return to work gradually after recovering from disabilities. If you have been receiving Social Security Disability Insurance for at least one year and want to return to work, there is a trial period of at least nine months during which you can continue to receive full Social Security benefits regardless of how much money you’re earning. After the trial period ends, there is a 36-month extended period of Social Security eligibility; throughout this period, you can work and continue to receive disability payments as long as your earnings are not substantial.
People receiving Supplemental Security Income can work and continue to receive benefits until their earnings exceed the need-based financial limits for this type of assistance. Find out more about how your earnings affect your Social Security eligibility by contacting our lawyers. With Pennsylvania offices serving Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, and Towanda, we provide comprehensive assistance to help our clients receive fair compensation in a timely manner.
